Oh! The things we wish for, be careful, they might come true. Hang on, there are goodies the history books don't tell us but are known to the old rooster who told the Time Traveling Granny!
My love of time travel began with the book Time and Again by Jack Finney and rekindled when I read The Mirror by Marlys Milhiser. This book I stayed up all night to read and couldn't put it down! The history books don't tell you the story, the real people story; the Out of Time books do. This adventure into time travel began in 2005, and the story kept coming and coming. The books are nice and thick with history and have a strong story line. They are a good value! If you like books that are continued with the same characters over time, these books are for you. The story takes place in Spook Hollow, just a short distance away from the Mohawk River in New York State. Read the review below!
I am currently reading the ninth novel in A.J. Berry's Out of Time series. It is easy to fall in love with Hope, the time traveler, as she brings her present-time reality into the eighteenth century. While she remains true to the historical period in which she finds herself, her ingenuity finds ways to enhance the "refrigeration" system, the "plumbing" facilities, and the "accounting" procedures of her adopted times. During her visits back to the present, she studies her neighboring Amish folk to see their techniques which could be transferred to Hope's eighteenth century lifestyle. And this is all perfectly believable, thanks to the skilled writing and extensive research of the author.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Trilogy is Wonderful!, November 7, 2007
This review is from: A Time of Terror: The Story of Colonel Jacob Klock's Regiment And The People They Protected, 1774-1783 (Paperback)
I purchased all three books in the trilogy, (I) A Time of Terror, (II)So It Was Written and (III) Brothers in Arms. My intention was to add some historical background to my genealogical research. I was not disappointed on this expectation. In fact, I have gained a wonderful set of storybooks that are filled with beautifully written recaps of historical events in the Central New York area from the early 1700's through to the mid 1800's. The soldiers, the town folk, the English, immigration records and events, military recordings, individual tribulations and even a recap of important buildings and their role in history are amply covered in these three books. I am looking forward to visiting the Mohawk Valley and appreciating the trip so much more! I am thrilled with my three books and I cannot put them down! What a wonderful writer!

5.0 out of 5 stars A.J. Berry's "A Time of Terror" Is A Keeper!

This review is from: A Time of Terror: The Story of Colonel Jacob Klock's Regiment And The People They Protected, 1774-1783 (Paperback)
The title of this book doesn't do justice to its content. It is obvious that the author did extensive research, as source material references and end notes give evidence. This book is so well written that it will appeal to residents of historic upstate New York, students, and educators as well as genealogists and history buffs. Ms. Berry includes some stories that are not commonly mentioned, including a special section on the Loyalists. It is one of those books of non-fiction that is hard to put down. An extensive index of names is included in "So It Was Written", volume 2 of what will be a trilogy. September 18, 2011 I enjoyed this book very much. Reading it was like listening to the author narrate a captivating story with two interwoven themes: time travel and authentic history. A delightful surprise for me was to find myself reading about some of my ancestors who lived in the late 1700s in the Mohawk Valley, New York, and who became a brief part of the novel. The author apparently researched the history with the thorough eye of a historian, and wrote the book with the creative flair of a novelist. I liked learning through the eyes of Hope and TJ, the main time traveling characters, about how these people who lived through the Revolutionary War actually went about their daily lives. I look forward to reading more books from this series. If the editors had been as thorough as the author, I would have rated the book a 5. (Four Star) Historical Novels by AJ Berry, July 26, 2011 I have read all of the books in the Out of Time series and highly recommend them. These books are novels but the history in them is completely accurate. The reader learns a lot about the Mohawk Valley and the people who lived there. Also, when the characters time travel a lot more history is revealed. AJ Berry does a great deal of research and you can count on her accuracy.
